Mentor Coaching for Healing Professionals:

You have dedicated yourself to improving the lives of others, and you want to feel confident that you possess ample competence when providing trauma-informed services to your clients.

Whether a 20-year veteran therapist or student in psychology graduate school, I invite you to join me in further developing our clinical skills in the realm of trauma recovery! My 20-rules curriculum presented in This Is How We Heal from Painful Childhoods (2024) offers a clear, structured, and effective curriculum that addresses 20 critical components of trauma-informed healing services.

Competent trauma-informed skills
Confidence earned through education + skills training

Build effective trauma-healing techniques and skills so that you can confidently and competently apply yourself to your clients and profession. Whatever your starting point, I offer supportive, non-judgmental, and compassionate consultation as you develop yourself professionally. While I am not a business coach, I am an 'open book' regarding my own business, and freely share insights I've gathered throughout my post-graduate career (starting in 2007).

I can help

with common challenges encountered by trauma-informed coaches and therapists:

  • Intense emotional and physical reactions (flashbacks, hyperarousal, dissociation) of clients who struggle when triggered.

  • Deep, complex reactions of clients to traditional therapeutic interventions.

  • Complex coping mechanisms, typically learned in dysfunctional childhood environments and relationships. These are often destructive and toxic (self-harm, substance abuse, disordered eating or exercise, etc.).

  • Deep-rooted adult relationship issues that replay the painful relationship patterns of a survivor's youth (attachment wounds, boundary distortions, trust issues, etc.).

  • Systemic and identity-based issues for clients struggling with intergenerational patterns of family abuse and dysfunction, institutional betrayal (by one's school, church, hospital, government, etc.), and oppressive poverty or discrimination.

  • In-session roadblocks like ruptures in the therapeutic alliance, resisting re-traumatization, political/ideological challenges, and relationship burnout.

What does a successful mentor-mentee relationship look like?

  • Supportive, professional coach - The mentor coach bears the responsibility of showing up prepared to provide a creative, enthusiastic, patient, compassionate, and non-judgmental setting.

  • Be Coachable! - A great mentee is able to ask focused questions and listen actively, accept constructive feedback, and take initiative to rapidly apply feedback.

  • Communication - This relationship is the place to practice very open, very direct, and supportive communication. The mentee is able to speak their mind and boldly ask even uncomfortable questions, to which the mentor responds with robust candor and precision. As the relationship progresses, the mentee increasingly directs the course of sessions and issues addressed.

  • Safe environment - As with coach-coachee and therapist-client relationships tasked with addressing human trauma, no topics are off-limits. It is up to the mentor here to maintain an open, respectful, and supportive space to discuss all matters without judgment or shame.

  • Collaboration - Both mentor and mentee understand that we are here together to learn from one another as we focus on improving the lives of our clients and our fellow human beings in general. We develop one another through education, training, support, healthy challenges, mutual respect, and dedication towards our chosen professions.
